Short & Half Mision Champaqui - Argentina

The colossal Champaqui, mountain of almost 2800m will host again the classic mountain race Short & Half Mision. This event will take place tomorrow, on October the 15th and will be held in San Javier and Yacanto, town of Traslasierra in Cordoba province. This is a picturesque mountain village at the base of Cerro Champaqui.

The Short & Half Mision are two races of 40 km and 80 km respectively, preparatory for the great Mision of 160 km and 200 km to be held between the 23rd and 26th of February 2017 in San Martin de los Andes. Participants of the Short & Half Mision will have to complete as self-sufficient the demanding course that include the bestial ascent to the edges of Champaqui what it means to input a direct ascent that has more than 2000 m. From the top, Short participants must walk down by a different ridge to the finish at the Hotel Yacanto. While, the Half participants must complete a path that will take them to turn the Cerro Champaquí, passing by the beautiful landscapes where ancient villagers and locals live and raise their herds for centuries.

Both races start at the same time and from the same place. The maximum time to cross the finish line is 24 hours this meaning that virtually everyone can complete the course. The last of the Short will finish the course at midnight while the Half spend all night by trekking and may re-supply food and rest in the post (shelters) of the villagers where they will be waiting with food and shelter. The Short & Half Mision of Champaquí is an event that has all the ingredients of a real mountain race where runners can live a unique experience that will serve as preparation for the big challenge of next year: The great Mision 160Km and Mision XL 200Km, an authentic adventure ... where to finish is to win!

Ultra Trail de México - Mexico

The first idea of the organizor was to create a qualifying race that could lead him to run the UTMB® one day, without the need to cross the Mexican borders. This is how the UTMEX is born and became the first ITRA Mexican member!

Then, regarding the growing interest for running in Mexico, especially trail races, the event adapted its program in order to propose 3 formats: 15K Fun Run (580 D+), 50K Ultra Light (2 130 D+) and the 100K Ultra (3 320 D+) which was initially a 80K. Due to the increasing demand (250 runners in 2010 to almost 1550 runners now, from 24 different countries), the start and finish line are now in the traditional town of Huasca. The race is a real challenge with a diversity of landscapes and is only at two hours away from Mexico City.

One of the main goal of this event is also to promote trail running and mountain culture in Mexico. For the future, the organisation of UTMEX would like to have a sustainable and positive growth of trail running in Mexico, with more participation of local people at the event, not only for running, but also to work and do some volunteering.
