Trail of the week / 19-25 Sept.

ITRA gives you a quick overview of some races organized this weekend !

Trail des Aiguilles Rouges - France

The TAR, organized by the CMBM (Chamonix Mont-Blanc Marathon) takes place in the Chamonix Valley on the 25th of September. Every three years, the arrival of the TAR is located in one of the three communes: Vallorcine, Servoz or Les Houches. This year Vallorcine has been elected to welcome the finishers ! The TAR, it is 50 km for 4000 D+, a good challenge for the 650 runners who will have the chance to run in the Nature Reserve of Aiguilles Rouges with an amazing view of the Mont Blanc chain. A shorter route is also possible with the P'tit TAR, 15 km and 1200D+, which will start and end in the Vallorcine commune.

"The most beautiful trail I did" said 86% of the runners who answered the survey after the race, in October 2015. The questions were about the global evaluation and organization of the race. The CMBM, active partner in the UTMB® and Marathon du Mont Blanc, is entirely dedicated to the pratice of athletism in the mountains and counts more than 200 members.

Grand to Grand Ultra - USA

The Grand to Grand Ultra is the first self-supported stage footrace ever to take place in America, on the 25th of September, on a world class course that has been experienced by few brave adventurers ! It is the only stage race to start from one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the awe-inspiring north rim of the Grand Canyon, and finish on the summit of the Grand Staircase, one of the world's most iconic geological formations. The course takes you through a high desert landscape of sand dunes, red rock slot canyons, buttes, mesas and hoodoos. You will experience the remotest part of continental America as did the earliest settlers, Navajo and Paiute Indian tribes. This is where Montezuma's gold is reputed to be buried.

273 km in 6 stages, over 7 days. Make no mistake, it’s tough. Running through the Utah and Arizona desert, runners will need to dig deep to uncover their untapped strength and determination. But they will not be alone, together they will support and encourage each other past the limits of endurance.
