Trail of the Month : September

Canada  Ultra Trail Harrican

On September 8, the Ultra Trail Harricana took place in the Boréalie, the wild Canadian countryside. The participants were able to discover through 8 races from 1km for children to the ultra 125 km trails in the middle of a raw nature and wildlife. The runners were able to cross a rich ecosystem in a nature reserve protected by UNESCO.

They climbed summits where the wind carries the marine effluvia from the coast of the St. Lawrence River and the boreal forest. It is for this atmosphere that every year many curious people participate in the Ultra-Trail® Harricana, where they can run with the inner wolf and release their wild side!

The Ultra-Trail Harricana of Canada (UTHC) offers breathtaking scenery. Green hills, Fjords and large bays have rubbed shoulders for millennia, even within a gigantic crater, the result of the impact of a 15 billion ton meteorite 360 million years ago.

This provided many memorable moments for all participants.

Sweden: Icebug Xperience 2018

The race is a diverse experience of 80.30 km long and 1,500m of elevation gain, including everything from huge cliffs to narrow forest trails. The route follows the ocean and crosses old fisherman’s villages, heaths, canyons and a huge amount of red-colored granite rocks.

The race starts at the beautiful island Bohus-Malmön, a place with an interesting stonemasonry history, with reminders such as the old quarries and stone remnants. The coastal trail here takes runners around the island and crosses nice beaches with smooth granite slabs. After a loop of 12 km around the island, the race time is paused to allow runners to get on a ferry back to the mainland.

At the mainland awaits a quite hilly track with a wide range of scenery. Runners pass slippery rocks, verdant forests and winding gravel roads. After 31 km, participants arrive at the beautiful village of Kungshamn Kungshamn, where they can enjoy cinnamon buns at the aid station.

Next up is a few kilometers of asphalt before the trail runners reach the famous pier in Smögen.

From here awaits single tracks passing mountains and forests for 10 kilometers, before reaching the nature reserve Ramsvikslandet at 48 km. Ramsvikslandet is a unique place, full of red-colored granite slabs and traces from the ancient ice sheet. Participants enjoy 16 kilometers of world class-trails, and then embark on the final part.

This last part takes runners through a hilly terrain with magnificent views. The last aid station is located at a stonemasonry museum with only ten kilometers left. The final challenges require runners need to climb two mountains before enjoying the downhill kilometers to finish the race.
