Trail de Haute Provence - France

This year the Trail de Haute Provence will celebrate its 5th edition. The event will take place on May from 11th to 13th in Pays de Forcalquier – Lure mountain in the heart of Haute Provence. 

7 races for adults and 4 races for children are offered on various distances to allow families, friends, young and old, to discover the beauty of Pays de Forcalquier in the region of Lure mountain. 

A special feature of the Haute Provence Trail is to help cancer research. By welcoming for the 4th time the Femina Tour Trail, this event works with the The Cancer League.

Protection of the environment is a top priority for the Trail de Haute Provence. The organisation works in collaboration with the Regional Natural Park of Luberon to offer picturesque, technically interesting and above all environmentally friendly routes. 

They have been chosen to allow runners to discover the area and cross protected and ecologically sensitive areas, even over private land. Runners will have the chance to discover the towns of Lardiers, Saint-Etienne-les-Orgues and Cruis, and gaze at the wonder of Lure mountain. 

This area, registered by Natura 2000, offers a splendid 360 degree viewpoint of the Ecrins and Dévoluy mountains, Mont Ventoux, the Valensole plateau, the Jabron valley, the Durance plain, in the typical light of Haute Provence. 

All runners are asked to do all they can to take care of the environment and preserve this fragile zone. 
Here are the details of the 4 races scheduled: 
  • Marathon De Lure : 45.6 km /2,150mD+ /2,290mD- (3 ITRA points)
  • Trail Des Bories : 26.4 km / 1,270mD+ / 1,280mD- (1 ITRA point)
  • Trail Des Mourres : 16 km / 600mD+ / 600mD-


The Ultra Trail Snowdonia : Great Britain 

The Ultra Trail Snowdonia will take place in Great Britain this coming May 11th.

There will be several races to choose from. The first one is the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100, which is 168.1 km long, with 10,220m of elevation gain and loss. The second one, known as the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 50, is an 86.2 km race with 5,480m of elevation gain and 5,490m of elevation loss.  

The 100 route begins with a gentle ascent of Snowdonia along the Llanberis path, before descending along the Pyg track as far as the Pen-Y-Pass YHA hostel. From here, runners descend the scenic Nant Gwynant valley before heading east to the peaceful Dolwyddelan valley. Then, due north, a technical scramble up Moel Siabod and a long descent down to Plas-Y-Brenin. The next section up to Llyn Cowlyd is a real gem, traversing beautiful woodland and lakeshore trails. The  rest of the race continues through equally breathtaking and steep landscapes, with passages on ridges. The descents are also technically demanding requiring skill and agility.

The second race will start in the same way as the first one. Runners will pass through magnificent areas, such as the summit of Mynydd-Mawr, the Beddgelert forest, with spectacular views on the west side of the Snowdon range. But the race doesn’t end here. Runners will take beautiful trails typical of the region and cross technical ridges with epic climbs. After a technical descent, the race will continue with a pleasant jog alongside the Glaslyn River. Wonderful surprises will be awaiting participants at the finish line where runners will be greeted with thunderous applause.


Nuts Karhunkierros : Finlande

The Nuts Karhunkierros race will be held  on May 25th 2018. The Nuts Karhunkierros in Finland is an event which groups together several races. Catering for all levels, they are all very different and offer runners the chance to admire the beauty spots of Finland.

There’s the 167.5 km with an elevation gain and loss of 2,570 metres for those looking for a tough challenge. This race will reward all finishers with 6 ITRA points. Runners will have an exceptional night and day experience of Oulanka Nature Park in the Spring. This race will test both your physical  and mental stamina. The question is : Will runners be sufficiently well prepared? Runners start from Ruka Ski Village, head to Hautajärvi, Karhunkierros Visitor Centre and come back again. 

The second race is 83.9 km long with an elevation gain of 1,360m and an elevation loss of 1,220m. “The Original”. This is the race from where it all began with a few runners in 2012 developing into one of the most talked about trail adventures in Finland. If you’re hiking, the Karhunkierros -trail can take up to seven days to complete – are you going to run it in one day?

Karhunkierros

The third race is the BUFF® Trail Tour Finland. It is 55.5 Km long with 1100m elevation gain and 890m elevation loss. The trail starts from Oulanka Visitor Centre hugging rugged riverbanks and passing by Finland’s most impressive water fall, Kiutaköngäs, followed by aapa mires and forested hills of Ruka. Participants are they prepared to challenge the fastest trail runners of Finland or are they testing their own stamina on longer-than-marathon adventure?

The 4th race is a 34.2 km long with 770m elevation gain and 630m elevation loss. This race is made up of the best bits of the Karhunkierros trail. The Route follows “Pieni Karhunkierros” where participants will discover spectacular scenery at Konttainen and Valtavaara finishing at the Ruka Ski Village.

Ultra Trail ® Gaspesia 100 : Canada  

Following the success of two first editions, the Gaspesia Race Series is proud to hold a new edition of the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100 (UTG100), a unique trail running experience between the shoreline and mountain ranges of the Gaspésie, in the East of North America, in Quebec!

Presented in partnership with the Town of Percé, the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100 offers several ultra running races of 159.1 km with 4,010m of elevation gain, 104.6 km with 2,660m of elevation gain and 54.3 km with 1,340m of elevation gain in addition to 1 km, 6 km, 12 km and 25 km races that will allow all runners to get a unique athletic experience in an exceptional mountainous region of Percé! A 3 three days stage race, the Trans-Percé 90 km is also on the event program!

Gaspesia

New this year: a race on the Bonaventure island : a 10 km long in the center of the Golf Saint-Laurent off the coast of Percé. 
The starting point of the UTG100 will take place in Percé, the tourist capital of the Gaspésie, near the world renowned Percé Rock.  The route will provide mainly single track trails all leading up to a place where you have the most spectacular views of the area.  Participants will discover landscapes featuring Percé Rock, Bonaventure Island, the Emerald River, Anse-à-Beaufils River and obviously, the Gulf of St.-Lawrence.

Tuffman : India  

The Tuffman Shimla Ultra will take place on June 23rd, 2018 in Shimla, India.  Shimla, situated in the Himalayan foothills, is a major tourist attraction in northern India. Historically, it is popularly known as the summer capital of British India.
Two races are proposed to runners:
  • 81.2 km with 4,880m vertical gain / 4,870m loss gain = 4 ITRA points.
  • 51.6 km with 1,420m vertical gain / 1,420m loss gain = 3 ITRA points.
Tuffman

For young adventurers, there are three other races to choose from: 30 km, 20 km and 4 km Tuffkid* The route is located 15 km from Shimla starting from Mashobra Greens resort which is deep inside the pine forest. The route is scenic, placid settings bring peace to the mind & is lined with apple orchards on one side and views of the snow-clad western Himalayan range on the other.

Tuffman is a race for people who want to challenge themselves, discover new surroundings and enjoy nature.
