A scenic trail race that journeys through the Craigieburn Forest Park and Castle Hill Conservation Area. Packed with lots of varied terrain, the Valley Ultra also incorporates several of the surrounding mountain peaks that are iconic of New Zealand's rugged and beautiful South Island.
The Whole Hog is the flagship race of the Valley Ultra and provides athletes with a challenging course that journeys through native beech forest, traverses tussock grasslands, down alpine screes and across rugged mountain peaks. An exposed 7km ridge line section is a particular highlight which also features the highest point of the course (1922m).
