CM6 has one clear goal from its inception: to be the most accessible race which gives runners a chance to obtain 6 ITRA points. CM6 is a perfect (though not easy) stepping stone race that enables runners to accumulate enough points and, more importantly, enough experience to join their dream races like UTMB or UTMF from the comfort of the City of
A 50 miler. The start is a 10km with 1000m of climbing to the Hmong village of Khun Xang Kien (the HQ), followed by an almost circular loop to Pa Nok Kok Village, a remote Hmong community. This one big round starts with a sharp incline to the summit of Doi Pui (1600+m above mean sea level), then a short traverse along a ridgeline and a relatively steep downward spiral through to a lively Hmong village with stalls and shops. Leaving the HQ for the second time will see you descend to a waterfall down rocky, twisty and rooty trails. Many runners are likely to travel this trail in the dark. Therefore, it is always a good idea to have adequate lighting equipment. You will need it. The last climb of the day will be from the Waterfall up to HQ. The way down to the Finish is technical in parts. And again, most runners will face this final home stretch in the dark, so be extra careful!
