Race Survey

Before you step foot on the steep paths of a trail race, check the Quality Index awarded by runners themselves! Because quality often equates with experience, ITRA provides runners with a scoring system to quickly identify the overall quality of the race experience.

Why evaluate the quality of a race?

Several Hundred if not thousands of new trail races are created each and every year, and the discipline is gaining new followers around the world. Rough terrain, races that require significant self-reliance, highly changeable weather ... each race is an adventure with a variety of factors at play! Knowing the quality of a trail race before participating can be a valuable tool for preparing for race day. The ITRA Quality Committee is pleased to provide runners and organizers with its Quality of Races Index. This index considers the general level of organization of the race before, during, and after the event.

A Race Quality Index based on the runner's experience 

After each trail race, runners can rate the general level of organization of the race in which they have participated.

• 15 questions to evaluate the quality of the race organization;
• 1 final Quality Index, published on the ITRA website;
• More detailed access for ITRA member organizers.

Average rating on a 1 to 5 scale

The Quality of Races Index is an average score out of 5, calculated for each race on the ITRA calendar. This average is obtained thanks to the responses of the runners who participated in the race and completed the quality questionnaire.

• 5 stars Organization of excellent quality
• 4 stars Organization of very good quality, which can be further improved
• 3 stars Organization of good quality, some points need improvement
• 2 stars Organization of average quality, essential points are to be reviewed
• 1 star Organization of poor quality, which may endanger the participants.

Each of the 15 points covered in the quality questionnaire is weighted by a more or less important coefficient. For example, questions about participant safety have a higher coefficient than questions about the race atmosphere. This makes it possible to prioritize the prevention and safety measures implemented by the organizer.
