12th Taygetos Challenge 2023

● Taygetos Marathon – 40 χλμ με θετική υψομετρική 2504μ. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι τα 2/3 των μονοπατιών του αγώνα διέρχονται μέσα από την προστατευόμενη ζώνη Natura 2000. Οι διαδρομές περνούν μέσα από το φαράγγι του Βυρού το οποίο πέρα από τη φυσική του ομορφιά, ξεχωρίζει και λόγω της ιστορικής του σημασίας καθώς κατά μήκος του διερχόταν η αρχαία Βασιλική Οδός που ένωνε την αρχαία Σπάρτη με το λιμάνι της Καρδαμύλης. Το πέρασμα από τα Ντουμπίτσια αποτελεί επίσης εμβληματικό τμήμα του αγώνα αλλά και της προστατευόμενης περιοχής: πρόκειται για ένα υψίπεδο με ιδιαίτερη χλωρίδα αλλά και απομεινάρια αλλοτινών καιρών, πεζούλες, κτίσματα και στέρνες, να συνθέτουν το φυσικό τοπίο. Taygetos Marathon - 40 km with a positive altitude of 2504m. It is worth mentioning that 2/3 of the trails of the race pass through the protected zone Natura 2000. The routes pass through the gorge of Byros which apart from its natural beauty, stands out due to its historical importance as along passed the ancient Royal Road that connected ancient Sparta with the port of Kardamili. The passage through Dubitsia is also an emblematic part of the struggle but also of the protected area: it is a plateau with a special flora but also remnants of ancient times, terraces, buildings and cisterns, to compose the natural landscape.
