About the Race

Welcome to the 60K BTR Ultra 2025 category! The BTRU 60K is an intense short ultra-distance trail race, spanning a total of 61.30 kilometers with an elevation gain of 3,819 meters and a cut-off time of 19 hours. This category is tailored for experienced trail runners who are serious about challenging themselves on a demanding ultra-distance course. Designed for those with a deep passion for trail running and a readiness to tackle ultra-distances, the 60K is an unforgettable adventure that combines physical endurance with the stunning natural and cultural landscapes of Bali. Winners in the 60K category will be recognized in both Open and Masters 50+ years category, allowing runners of all ages to compete and excel. As this race is part of the ITRA (International Trail Running Association), UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc), and Asia Trail Master performance indexes, it provides an excellent opportunity for runners to enhance their trail running credentials and build their profiles. With these performance indexes, every effort and mile you complete will contribute to your running achievements, making this race a valuable addition to your portfolio. The 60K route is designed to offer a complete circuit around the ancient Batur Caldera, allowing participants to experience nearly every part of this awe-inspiring volcanic landscape. This course is highly popular among seasoned trail runners for its blend of challenging terrains, unique scenery, and cultural richness. The race includes ascents and descents on nearly all the trails surrounding Mount Batur, making it an exhilarating journey that showcases the diversity of Bali’s natural beauty. The route begins by winding through pine forests and then progresses to the summit of Mount Batur, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the volcanic crater and surrounding mountains. From the summit, runners will descend to the southern side of the mountain, leading to the expansive black lava fields, a surreal landscape that resembles the surface of Mars, with its dark, rugged lava formations left from previous eruptions. This unique terrain presents a striking contrast to the lush greenery you’ll encounter in other sections of the race. The adventure continues with an ascent toward Mount Abang, the remnant of the ancient Batur volcano. Here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Bali's rugged landscapes, taking in the remnants of the ancient volcanic structure. Following Mount Abang, runners will traverse scenic hills covered with savana and valleys, providing a dramatic shift in scenery with sweeping views and wide open spaces that showcase the natural diversity of Bali’s highlands. One of the highlights of the 60K route is a descent to the village of Terunyan, a traditional Balinese village known for its unique customs and rich cultural heritage. Here, runners will pass through an authentic side of Bali that few visitors see, gaining a deeper appreciation for the island’s ancient traditions and community life. The village’s atmosphere offers a serene yet humbling glimpse into Bali's heritage, making this part of the race especially memorable. The course then climbs to the Pedahan Hill, a steep, challenging ascent that will test every ounce of your remaining strength and determination. Known as the "hill of hell," this part of the course pushes runners to their limits with its demanding incline, rewarding those who conquer it with a sense of profound accomplishment and views that make the effort worthwhile. The journey concludes with a rolling trail through local vegetable farms, providing a peaceful, scenic end to this challenging ultra. Running through these farms, you’ll experience a connection to Bali's rural traditions, as the farms represent the lifeblood of the local communities who cultivate the land. This final stretch offers a gentle transition from the wild, rugged terrain of the mountains to the cultivated beauty of Bali’s countryside. The 60K BTR Ultra 2025 is more than just a race; it’s a journey through the heart of Bali, blending extreme trail running challenges with the island’s natural and cultural treasures.
