About the Race

Philippines is blessed with majestic mountains, and Mt. Bulul-lumut in Mindanao is one of them. It's a great destination for hiking tours suited to outdoor enthusiasts who want to explore the mountain’s natural beauty. For the past decades, Mount Bulul-lumut has been plagued with conflict due to the local communist insurgency that has designated this mountain as their Guerilla Base. Thankfully, with the efforts of the National Task Force ELCAC known as the “Whole-of-Nation Approach”, a series of Community Support Programs were implemented in the surrounding area of the mountain that eventually led to the series of surrenders of the supporters and the guerilla fighters. By December 21, 2020, the area clearing validation board declared all the areas influenced by the Guerilla Front ALIP as peaceful and conflict-resilient communities and ready for further development. Eventually, the group was dismantled last January 18, 2022, due to the surrender of its commanders and fighters and the complete dissolution of the terrorist group. This is further strengthened by the Province of Davao del Sur's declaration as an insurgency-free province last June 2022. This mountain race in Mount Bulul-lumut will serve as a showcase activity not only for the promotion of the beauty of its virgin forest but mainly as a symbol of the attainment of peace in the area that will encourage everyone to explore and further contribute to its development. It will symbolize the transformation of a conflict-affected area into a new spot for eco-tourism that will be beneficial to the surrounding B’laan Tribe communities in the area.
