HISTORY Musta-Tunturi (from fin. "musta" - black, gloomy; "Tunturi" - treeless mountain) — a mountain range in the Murmansk region, which separates the Middle Peninsula from the mainland. It consists mainly of granite. 1920-1939 - this place was the border with Finland. 1941-1944 - here the northernmost section of the front, the southern, gentle slope was occupied by fascist troops, and the Northern, steep, held by the Soviet. Musta-Tunturi still preserves the memory of the great Patriotic War. Along the ridge stretches barbed wire, granite slopes are dotted with shells and fragments, preserved fortifications. This is the only place where the offensive was stopped on the first day, June 29, 1941, and the invaders failed to advance until the end of the fighting. 65KM Ultramarathontsam yet to run first to the lips of Malaya Volokova and from it to rise to the absolute height of the ridge Musta-Tunturi-262 meters, at the place of its victorious assault by Soviet troops. Then run almost the entire length of the ridge along the fortifications, go down a gentle slope on the former German military road and return to the starting town.
