About the Race

Description of the Race The Runners Club "EFKLIS", is organizing "1st YMITTOS MARATHON" in South Ymittos on the last Sunday of April. The race will take place in the South Umittos area on the border of the municipalities of Ellinikon-Argyroupolis, Glyfada, Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, Koropi, Vyronas, Ilioupolis. The route is measured and certified 46km long, circular and moves to 50% on paths and 50% on a forest road, with a total positive elevation of 2,200m. The exclusion time limit is 10 hours. The first 400m is asphalt then we enter a gravel road and a forest dirt road up to 2.5km, from there starts a trail of dirt uphill up to 4km, top "Taxiarchis". From that area we walk down the path at the beginning of the downhill, and then with many gliders we arrive at about 6km and we enter the ancient pine-leaf path, the ancient "Sfittia Road", which leads us to a place called "Stavros" at 7 km (1st Station). Until here we've got a positive elevation rate of 620 meters. Then we follow the upward path through the "Tripia" Cave and the "Three Stones" (beautiful geological landscapes), steering the Saronic sea, passing over the "Terpsitheas-Glyfadas" stadium and we arrive at the "Varellas" gorge 13km (2nd Station -1st Cut of point with limit time 3 hours). From here we follow a path leading us to the peak "Stroma" 750m height.  The path crosses a peek with dense small pine trees. From the top we can see the islands of Evia and Andros to the East and the islands of Aegina and Hydra to the South. Until that point, we' ve got a positive altitude of 1300 meters. Then we take the forest road and at the first intersection we turn left and continue the downhill to 23 km, "Vellas-Koropi"(3rd Station). The route continues on a forest dirt road and we will enter a path to climb again to the "Stavros", which is lay on the extension of the ancient "Sfittia Road" towards "Koropi". We climb looking to the left the ancient well of "Ntouka", which today has still water. Arriving at "Stavros" , we turn right and go up to the "Profitis Elias of Koropi" (here in antiquity there was the Temple of Zeus). We are at 29 km and have a view to "Koropi" and "Eleftherios Venizelos" the International Airport of Athens. (Here there is sp?t with drinking water). We continue to the left the path, marked "Sessi", which leads to the top hill above "Profitis Elias". We pass a few meters away from a place where there is an ancient quarry with an impressive unfinished column, and we continue the downhill road until the "Hunting Kiosk" of Koropi 31km (4th Station - 2nd Cut of point with limit time 7 hours). So far, we have a positive altitude of 1650 m. From here we climb the very difficult (almost vertical) Trail 10 (marked with the number 10) to reach the top where the mobile antennas are located, climbing 350 meters of positive altitude for about 2 km .At the top we reach a positive altitude of 2000 m. We pass at the side of the antennas and enter the forest dirt road with direction to the Monastery of "Agios Ioannis Kareas". After 2 km we enter a downhill path, where at the end is the last station 37 km (5th Power Station-Monastery of "Agios Ioannis Kareas"). From here begins an ascent for 500 m on a technical path and we gain almost 200 m positive altitude, arriving the 2200 m of positive altitude. Continuing on the path we descend passing by the Katafigio of Ilioupolis and lead to a forest dirt road. From there we move on a downhill dirt road for 8 km and pass over the area of "Ilioupoli", the little church of "Agia Irini" and enter the gravel road, which we passed at 1 km and then on an asphalt road for 250m, to reach the finish line(time limit 10 hours). Our impressive journey, the difficult route of 46 km with a positive altitude of 2200m has come to an end. We enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of YMITTOS, its impressive paths, its five different peaks and the unobstructed view. Registrations through the site : https://bit.ly/efklios2024
