Organizer information

The Organizer space is intended for organizers of trail-running races. In order to guarantee the best quality of events and to spread the values of trail running, ITRA provides race organizers with lots of services.

Safety and Health

As a demanding sport amid the wilderness, and on often rugged terrain, trail running requires impeccable organization, where all safety and rescue measures are well-considered and managed. That is why ITRA has developed a guide of recommendations to assist race organizers.

A commitment to all stakeholders
The organizer has the obligation to set up safety and rescue systems adapted to trail running competitions. These measures must make it possible to ensure the safety not only of the runners but also of all those involved in the race: members of the organization, employees and volunteers, service providers, employees of local authorities, accompanying persons, and the general public.
These safety precautions require:
  • a solid upstream organization
  • the deployment of modes of transport and information transmission during the race
  • the implementation of preventive actions
  • the organization of medical and first aid teams and their means of intervention.
The Safety, Health and Rescue Guide
The ITRA Security Commission provides organizers with a practical guide to SafetyHealth and Rescue recommendations to guide them in the implementation of their security measures. This Guide to safety, health and rescue was developed in consultation with doctors, first aid personnel, professional rescue organizations and race organizers. Perfectly adapted to the requirements of trail running, it is the result of their experience in the field.
It describes all the organizational principles, actions and human and material resources:
  • accident prevention
  • assistance to people in distress
  • field communications and improved information transmission
  • organization of logistical and emergency transport.
