About the Race

Nepal's first 100 mile trail race. The Manjushree trail race takes runners along the ridge line of the Kathmandu valley and across all 7 peaks surrounding the valley. Although only a few hours away from Nepal's capital, participants will only see glimpses of the city now at ties and mostly be running through the national parks that surround the valley and cover its rim. With its 175 kilometers and over 12,500 meter incline on single tracks and trail, the race offers a magical but brutal challenge. The race is inspired by the story of the god Manjushree that walked around the large lake that used to occupy the valley, before cleaving the rim, drowning out the lake and thereby creating he valley in which Kathmandu later on was founded. More recently, the concept of a route around the valley along the rim has been inspired on the explorations of Lizzie Hawker and Seth Wolphin. On April 23-35 2021, the first edition of the Manjushree 100 mile trail race was organized, allowing a small group of racers to set off. Out of the 10 runners that started, 5 runners completed the race within the cut-off time of 49 hours, with Jeevan Lama and Anita Rai setting the male and female fastest time of 33:14:23 and 36:14:42 respectively. Hope to see you in 2023!
